Sasha was a hostage at Beslan School siege. After the first explosion he tried to escape, but got trapped under a part of the fallen burning roof of the gymnasium. The doctors did not expect Sasha to survive as 40% of his body was covered with severe burns. After months of treatment at special hospital for burned patients in Rostov Sasha returned home. He is still suffering from kelloid scars, a condition when scar tissue grows replacing normal skin. Sasha is in a lot of pain, as kelloid scars prevent normal muscle movement. Sasha cannot go to school, and has difficulty playing with his peers. His top skin is extremely thin and can rupture and bleed easily. To recover or improve his condition Sasha needs further treatment, which is not available in Russia. This treatment costs thousands of dollars.
